Some of my students have a lot of trouble with the concept of maps and giving or following directions to travel from point A to point B (i.e., left, right, to, across, ...). One day, instead of using the map-based lessons in Ventures, I tried acting out the directions. (I meet with these students in person. This tactic might work on Zoom but could be a bit confusing.)
I stood in the middle of the room and asked them to tell me how to walk to the door by directing me to ""turn left", "turn right", "go straight", etc. The first couple of times their directions caused me to end up in a corner facing the wall, which they thought was hilarious. Eventually they were able to imagine themselves in my place and give me accurate and more reliable directions, and they had fun doing it,
